The Historical Gateway of India

There is no monument as grand as the Gateway of India in Mumbai. The gateway situated near the port of Mumbai was erected in 1927 to celebrate the visit of Queen Mary and King George V to India during the Delhi Durbar event. Gateway of India’s architect was George Wittet and the design was greatly inspired by Gujarat style which was prevalent in the 16th century.
This location holds great significance and is one of the most popular tourist places in Mumbai as it is mentioned that the last British soldiers exited from India by sea at this location. The tourist enjoy themselves here by feeding thousands of pigeons that inhabit the area and one can also take boat rides to the sea from this location.
Marine Drive
