Phillip Island is something of a national treasure for Australia. It’s a beautiful spot and many people are choosing it as the perfect getaway from normal life. It attracts Australian natives and travellers alike, and its area of 10,000 hectares means there’s plenty of space for everyone. At its widest point it measures a whopping 29 by 9 kilometres – pretty big for an island!
The climate is mild, the landscape is flat and beautiful, housing 6000 permanent inhabitants; but it is visited by an estimated 3 million tourists every year!
Easy Access

Phillip Island was discovered in 1798 by George Bass. A bridge link to the mainland was built in the 1940s, which was later replaced in 1969. Because it is so easily accessed, it’s easy to see why it’s such a popular tourist resort. Its wide range of available accommodation, shops, restaurants and activities lures people of all ages and all walks of life in, with many people returning year after year.
Where Should I Stay?

Phillip Island boasts a wealth of different accommodation options, from exclusive hotels through to cottages and apartments for rent. Eco cottages, caravan parks, motels and campsites are also available. There really is an option to suit every budget. You are advised to bring bikes or a car with you as Phillip Island does not currently have a public transport service in place. Many places can only be reached on foot, so make sure you pack a good pair of walking boots.
What Should I See?

You will simply be spoilt for choice at the wide range of activities and attractions available to you on the island. The famous fairy penguin march that happens at dusk is a must-see, and is by far the most famous attraction on the island. A tour will lead you to the right place – and it’s something you will never forget. But there are also art exhibitions, along with events and festivals all the year round. The towns such as Newhaven and Cowes are simply stunning, and the famous Grand Prix racing track pulls petrol heads from around the world!
Wonderful Wildlife
